Judge: Sue Heard
Steward: Lesley Honeysett
Scoreboard: Becca Heard
Entries 46 - 28 ran
A huge thank you to Southern Border collie for a lovely day we were well looked after with a lovely buffet lunch and even the weather was kind, made a nice change to judge without torrential rain all day!!
Another thank you must go to Charlie and the stay team without whom there could be no show! Out there in all weathers hot, cold or wet Charlie is always there for us! I must also thank my steward Lesley who despite her nerves at the beginning of the day did an absolutely superb job guiding all around the ring; I knew you could do it! Thanks Les and yes you did such a good job I would ask you again!!?! Once again Becca did a grand job keeping the figures in order despite one misdemeanour, which was soon sorted (you don't get out of it that easy, you do such a good a job the rest of the time!! Thanks! Shame about the b & w one!!!)
Last but not least to the competitors, once again I was not kept waiting all day, to which I was most grateful. I did try to make the round suitable for all breeds with some long straight stretches of h/w along with some short bits with frequent turns! I was however quite disappointed at the amount of training rounds at the end of the day with only 10 dogs working the round 1 of which didn’t do stays. As for the training rounds, some were stunning with really motivated dogs who thoroughly enjoyed their work, but unfortunately there was a few who just nagged their dogs and got crosser as they went round. Come on guys this is a hobby and its supposed to be fun for both dogs and handlers! Moans over: The crème de la crème at the end of the day were as follows;
1st. P. Heather and Fernie Pops - WS B. Well done to Pauline and this attractive blue merle girlie. Just bits and pieces in heelwork mainly on turns, she seemed to enjoy the long stretches of h/w, just a quarter lost in ret along with an accurate A rec only losing ½. Two wins down one to go, can you make it a win every week for 3 weeks! Good luck for next weekend. Well done on today’s win may next week be your third! All the best of luck in B.
2nd. C Hancock and Borderclan High Tide - BC B. Won this place after a run off with following dog. A cracking round from Chrys and Freya, such a shame that Freya forgot to sit on the halt at the end of the heelwork, although I know you are not in a rush for your last A, but I’m sorry you better start working on those sendaways, that last A win is definitely not far away! I was very impressed how much this team's standard of work has risen in the last 12 months. Congratulations on this place your hard work is paying off! All the best of luck for the rest of the season.
3rd. J Clayton and Wolfhart Aviking - GSD D. Beaten in a run off with the above dog in an A recall but only just. A very accurate round of h/w just bits and pieces to mark. Shai followed this up by losing just a half a mark in scent. A huge great hairy handsome boy, who tries hard for you Jack. Well done on this place. Good luck for the rest of the season.
4th. J Atkins and Seaspring Mayday - ESS B. Stunning heelwork from Puzzle on the straights, all marks were lost on turns, tighten these up Julie and you will easily be the winner on another day, the crash and bark in the retrieve also kept you to a lower place today, but with her attitude and her keenness you will soon win out of this class. Good luck for the future.
5th. L. Sage and Cleynehage Xtra Flair - Goldie D. Nice motivated round from this team. Unfortunate anticipation on the A recall and mouthing the dumbbell in retrieve, but your only clear scent of the day helped achieve this place, well done to Lynda and Kyle, all the best of luck for the season.
6th. C Wiltshire and Axernamoon Silver Pearl - BC B. I do you hope you got your rosette ok. This team would have been higher in the cards but for 3 points lost in scent due to a dropped cloth. Which is probably why you were not there for the prize giving. Charles and Spirit worked a lovely round only let down by your turns, sort these out and you could be at the other end of the line up. Well Done
I would like to mention Gill and Mastet Jazz Bow who trained their round due to his lack of confidence (the traffic was loud at that end of the ring?!). Your handling of him was excellent, I’m sure the pair of you will go far. Good Luck.
Also To Sally and Tarot, GSD, who again his heelwork was hard to find fault with but unfortunately things went pear shaped on retrieve, but who cares he won his second novice today well done Sally.
Once again thanks to all the members of Southern Border Collie Club who did such a great job running the show with so few obedience members.
