Open Obedience Show 1/7/2007
Class Novice Part 1 - Judge's Report

Judge: Mick Seward
Steward: Val Seward
Scoreboard: Sarah Smith
Entries: 47

Thank you to Southern BC club for the invite to judge. We were well looked after with a buffet lunch and refreshments ringside, and many thanks for the lovely gifts for myself and my team. Of course I must thank my steward Val for doing her usual efficient job and Sarah for keeping the scoreboard and competitors in such good order. As this was such a large class and we only started at 10am, we ensured everyone put their number down to work on the sheet, this worked exceptionally well and we didn’t have a gap all day and were finished really early. I don’t know why this is no longer expected of competitors, it definitely saves on all those long waits, if someone wasn’t there for their turn we just put them to the end of the list and worked the next person. Finally my thanks to Charlie and his team for the well ordered stays. The standard today was really good with the best six as follows:

1st. Miss S. Porter Olantigh Ritual Magick GSD D. Lost 1
I think this is the best novice round I have judged. Taro and handler were in perfect unison and were giving nothing away. It was really good to see a GSD working to this standard and I am sure this team will do well through the classes. Congratulations, it was a pleasure to award you the number one spot, you really deserved it.

2nd. Mrs M. Jenkinson Moonlight Rose BC B. Lost 2
This team showed that you don’t have to have the style to ensure the precision. A super round and very unlucky to meet the above today. Only lost 1 HOL, ½ HF and ½ for the pick up on retrieve. Very well done.

3rd. Miss S. Behagg Megs Surprise XB B. Lost 2½
Won the run off with the following dog for this place. Meg is a lovely little bitch who gives her all to her young handler. The teamwork was great to watch and I am so pleased to see you doing so well. I am sure a red rosette won’t be long in coming with work like this. Well done.

4th. Mr P. Lubbi Woughstock Wynsome Dryfte WS D. Lost 2½
A little drifting in the heel free in the run off was what separated you from the above dog. I am sure in your capable hands Dryfte will be out of Novice soon. Well done on your place in the line up.

5th. Mrs J. Bolton Shadowsquad Tenon GSD D Lost 4
Won the run off with the following dog. Just bits and pieces on each exercise totted up the marks. Well done on achieving a place in the final six.

6th. Mrs P. Handfield Perfect Jazz Time WS B. Lost 4
Jazz worked a good round, just the drifting in the heelwork which relegated you to this end of the line. Well done.

Special rosette to: Mr D. Reynolds Karajac Midnight Star BC. I awarded the special to this team because I was impressed with the handling by this young man, very workmanlike and upright.
