Open Obedience Show 11th May 2008
Class A Part 1 - Judge's Report

Judge: Jan Piles
Steward: Pat Cross
49 entries ~ 36 ran

Many thanks to Karen for asking me to judge at this very well run show. I stepped in for Val Seward whose husband is ill - Mick, we wish you a speedy recovery - so I hope competitors weren't too disappointed. Couldn't have been made more welcome and looked after by all the helpers and committee - a super job! Thank you. Weather was kind and it was sunshine all the way with a little wind which was great for the dogs and handlers didn't have to mop their brows!

I have to say a very big THANK YOU to Pat who gave up working her dogs to steward for me at the last minute - not a foot wrong and super efficient - sorry Pat you made too good a job of it not to be asked again! Many thanks indeed! Thanks also to Charlie and his band of stewards in the Stay Ring and anyone who stepped in to help. Competitors came in continually all day and we were not kept waiting at all - and for that I'm most grateful! The class was of mixed capabilities as expected and quite a few training rounds but the cream rose to the top as usual with a very high standard of work and not a lot of marks separated them. Results were:

1st. Sabrefield Ablaze at Daelois (Malinois) Miss M Young.
What a superb round! Teak was very neat and accurate, knows his job and got on with it and with precise handling - a clear Recall and a clear Scent made you the winner today. I had great pleasure to present the red rosette Margaret and I'm sure the other one is not far away with this standard of work. Congratulations and good luck for the rest of the season.

2nd. Colliewood Casanova (WS) Miss J Lewis.
This was the only team to go clear on both Recall and Retrieve and I thought this was the winner and then came Scent! Heelwork marks were the same as the winner but scent relegated you to the blue one today. I know you were extremely pleased with Ozzy - he worked a cracking round and this was his first 'A' scent, very keen and accurate and no fuss handling. A very bright future for the two of you. Very well done and good luck.

3rd. ARO Shephers Cajan Express (WS) Mrs P Medley.
Won the run-off for this place and another 'knows his job'. Little bits and pieces to correct - loved the super fast Retrieve! Very well done Pauline and good luck.

4th. ARO Dellekko Rockafella (BC) Mrs L Hughes.
What a lovely round and not a lot wrong. Well pleased for you as I understand this was Gadget's first time in A. If he keeps up this standard the red ones won't be long coming! Well done and good luck.

5th. St. Vincent Treble Gold (GR) Mrs J Appleton.
Lovely handling Julie and a super round from Archie. He tried so hard for you and just those little bits and pieces all added up but a copybook clear Recall! Very well done and good luck.

6th. ARO Hawkstor Out Of The Blue for Darkquest Nov Ex (BC) Mrs D M Morgan.
Won the run-off and just squeezed into the cards. Heelwork expensive in the initial round and needs tightening up but Maizer is still a young dog and tried so hard for Mum today. Well done on gaining this place.

7th. ARO and Judges Special: Lightning Twist Of Fate Nov Ex (BC) Mrs M Davis.
Very hard to split with the above in the run-off. Scent took its toll today otherwise it would have been a higher place, 'on another day' story. Well done Mel and Nicky and good luck.

Bacon rolls for breakfast and the spread for lunch was delicious and thank you to the caterers. Many thanks once again to everyone concerned with the organising and the behind the scene helpers. The competitors didn't keep us waiting and were quite a jovial bunch which made a very enjoyable day. Thank you.
